PI Day planning

during our December meeting, which many members did not attend, we discussed pi day. We will be ordering t-shirts so be sure to go to our google classroom and vote for your favorite design. We will start taking orders the week after midterm exams. Every member has a homework assignment. You need to make up 2 questions involving pi and supply the answers. The questions should be from topics in your current math class not something like find the area of a circle with a radius of 2.

We will begin cutting and gluing during our January Meeting. we have thousands of questions to glue to pieces of pie.

I also want to remind everyone that you are supposed to be involved at least 75% of the time if you want to remain a member. There are some seniors that have not attended one meeting this year. I do not call this being involved. So please come talk to me.

To raise money for pies and prizes we will continue to collect bottles & cans and hopefully have a can drive early in the year. We will also collect empty ink cartridges for money.
Our first event is the 3rd week of school. Honor Society awareness week. We will have a jar full of candy and students will try to guess how many pieces of candy.
The officers for the year are:
President - Renee Sanford; Vice President- Thomas Denham; Secretary - Nancy Holmes.
Meetings will be the last Wednesday of each month.

Amazing Race

The Amazing Mathematics Race is coming soon. April is mathematics awareness month and to celebrate Norton High has it's annual amazing mathematics race. This years theme is "The Power of Prediction" The race will begin the Monday after vacation. Lots of prizes will be awarded.

April newsletter

Congratulations to our team that competed in the Moody’s Mega Math Challenge on February 27th. They won honorable mention and a little scholarship money.

I feel that Pi Day was a success. Table Talk Pie company donated 144 pies to help us out and the math teachers donated a few more so we didn’t have to spend too much money.

Our next event is the annual amazing mathematics race. April is National Mathematics awareness month and we celebrate that with the race. This years theme is “The Future of Prediction” you can check it out online http://www.mathaware.org/index.html
If you would like to help in planning the race meet in room 241 after school on Wednesday April 6th. If you can’t make it that day come see me and see what you can do to help.

Since we are approaching the end of the year it is time to get your service hours in to me. You only need 5. If you have been tutoring all year then I have extra hours for you. Let me know what you want to do with the extra hours. If applying them to National Honor Society I can just send an email to Mrs. Young but you need to talk to me. Seniors need to have their hours in to me by May 1st so I can purchase your graduation cord. No hours = no cord! Juniors need to turn in their hours by June 1st.

I want to thank this year’s 3 officers, Dan, Bobby, and Ryan for all their hard work. We have had a great year. I hope to see the same commitment in whoever runs for office next year. If you plan to run for office you need a nomination form that you can get from me and that must be returned by Wednesday April 27th.

Pi Day Update

Yesterdays meeting was very productive and preparing for pi day. I would say we are 75% done. I still have Agebra 2 questions that need to be cut and glued if you are available Thursday or Friday after school.

Calling all members

There was an announcement to stop by the math office and get the newsletter. I hope everyone did that. In the newsletter I asked for pi day volunteers and so far I have had 2. I am VERY Disappointed in the Mu Alpha Theta Members. We did not have a meeting in January, but you were supposed to stay when ever you could to work on Pi day questions. If you want to be a member of Mu Alpha Theta that involves you helping for pi day. If you, the members, don't get the work done then I will cancel the pi day activity. You can stay after school this week Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and next week Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. I hope to see you at least one of those days.
I also need volunteer time keepers for Parent/Teacher conferences Thursday night 6 - 8 pm

Wednesday, January 27, 2016

Need Volunteers

Don't forget that next week I need volunteers to stay after school and work on the pi day questions. I have some other math projects that I will need volunteers for in February. Keep checking this blog for updates.
Remember - no meeting this month just volunteers any day next week for pi day help.
